My days in ICU were alright I guess. I spent a lot of time sleeping. For the first few days my blood levels were everywhere and I ended up needing more blood after the surgery. A lot of my time in ICU was a blur. Saturday which was day after my surgery was Alyssa's first birthday. I can't believe she is 1 already. I did get to see her on her birthday which was nice, but I was tired and she was in a new place and got fussy pretty quick. The morning of her birthday my sister in law and brother were kind enough to watch her and had a mini party for her. See some of the pics below:
She had a blast for her birthday and was totally spoiled. Back to ICU days .... My doctors had thought I'd still have the breathing tube in a few days after surgery. Everything went so well I was moved out of ICU by Tuesday. I was moved to my own private room, it wasn't on the floor my doctor originally wanted me to be but it would work until a room opened up. The floor I was on they dealt more with GI patients and they weren't as familiar with my surgery and whatnot. I spent a lot of my time reading, playing on iPad and watching tv. My amazing husband stayed with me pretty much from morning to night. I'm not sure what I would do without him. I just felt more comfortable when he was there. My Munchie came to visit me several times and we got out cuddle time in. Well on this floor I worked with physio for 2 days and the first day they had me just sitting up on edge of bed with feet touching the ground. This was the first time I had sat up since my surgery. I was very lightheaded and heart rate and blood pressure were through the roof. They didn't push me too hard bc they said sitting up was a huge accomplishment. The 2nd day they came in they got me standing up with a walker. I stood for a total of 7 minutes. Huge accomplishment and I couldn't believe how weak my upper body was. It's crazy how much strength you lose from being on bed rest for that long. On Friday my nurse came in and said I was being transferred to a different floor. This floor is for cancer patients and they are more familiar with the type of surgery I had.
Next post I will comment on my move to the penthouse lol ...... That's what we like to call it.
You're so brave Laura! We're rooting for you every step of the way! Xo Tony & Jen Mouawad
