Where To Begin ......

I just realized I haven't posted anything since January 16th ..... I've been on quite the roller coaster the last week or so.  Where should I start ... As everyone knows I was at Freeport continuing with my rehab waiting to be transferred to the actual rehab floor.  My crazy roller coaster ride started last Friday.  I had a fever 3 days in a row and on Friday I was sent to emerge at Grand River because they weren't sure if my fever was related to the cold and sore throat I had or was related to another infection on one of my wounds.  Luckily we didn't have to wait to long at emerge, my wonderful mother came with me.  Her old boss was one of the emerge docs and he took care of me.  They did a bunch of bloodwork and everything came back normal but they were still worried about my wounds. I have an incisional wound on my bum and a pressure ulcer.  The doctor wanted to send me to Hamilton that night to have my surgeon look at it, because my surgery is not something Grand River is familiar with they don't want to touch it.  Of course it was a Friday night, so they couldn't get a hold of my surgeon.  They decided to admit me to GRH and on that Monday they would talk to my surgeon to have me admitted to Hamilton.  Yeah tell me about it one thing after the other.....since I was admitted to GRH this meant I lost my bed at Freeport.  They didn't want to send me back to Freeport in case my fever came back.  Of course my fever disappeared by the time I got to emerge and then has never come back since.  Soooo I was admitted to the 6th floor around 4am I finally got to the room.  I don't know what I would do without my mom and Dean because they stayed in emerge with me the whole time and waited till I got settled in the new room.  I was in this room till 4am on Saturday then I was transferred to another room on the 6th floor in a private room and put on isolation.  When I asked why I was put on isolation they said because I was coming from another hospital they didn't know if I was bringing anything back with me.  I stayed in this room till Monday  I think it was (I lost track of the days).  I had lots of visitors in the mean time.  My Aunt and Uncle came to visit, they are wonderful and can relate to what I'm going through, so it's always nice to see them.  Thank you Bruce and Carolann for everything you've done, I don't know what I'd do without you both.  Mom and Dean come up everyday to visit, they brought Alyssa whenever possible.  They have been amazing, again I don't know what I'd do without them. Dan came up to visit whenever he could around his work schedule.  On Sunday night they brought Alyssa up and mom and I and Alyssa we're sitting on the bed and I was playing UTUBE songs for Alyssa; she started clapping and shaking her head, it was the cutest thing ever because I've never seen her clap like that.  I started laughing so hard, she looked right at me with this serious face, like mama why you laughing like that lol.  It was so cute.  On Monday, Barb (a friend of moms and like a second mom to me) came up and spent most of the day with me, she washed my hair and we chatted about had some good laughs.  Late in the afternoon I was told I was moving to another room because I was taken off isolation and my room was needed for another patient on isolation.  I was moved up to the 8th floor to a semi private room, which was empty till midnight that night.  Tuesday was my appointment with my surgeon in Hamilton, the patient transfer came to get me at 7am (way too early).  Dan and I meant with Dr. Ghert and she looked at my wounds and she wasn't too concerned, she said my fever was related to my cold and sore throat that I had.  She wrote some orders for when I came back to Kitchener, one of which was aggressive rehab and to get out of bed as often as possible.  So when I got back I was still waiting to be transferred back to Freeport but there were no beds available.  I became friends with my roomie, she was young (first young person ever I've met in hospital .... Normally they are old lol) .... She was in hospital for migraines, she was going on day 13 with a migraine, I couldn't imagine.

I stayed at GRH till Friday .... I was then transferred back to Freeport yesterday.  I am on a different floor which is upsetting to me, because I really wanted to go back to my old floor where I knew all the nurses.  Oh well, I'm starting to get familiar with everyone because I've been around hospitals lol. Yesterday when I got here, the doctor came in and physio came in right away to get me set up with a walker and wheelchair.  They managed to get my old wheelchair from my old floor which was nice.  The physiotherapists from my old floor came down to visit me when they heard I was back, which was very nice of them.  I am still on wait list to get to the aggressive rehab floor; I'm in rehab now but it's only Monday to Friday, the other floor is Monday to Sunday twice a day.  That is the floor I really need to be on.

So here I am Saturday afternoon, in my new room at Freeport.  I'm in a room with 3 other people.  I've met most of them.  The lady across from me got here yesterday also, she is 86 Years old and I think a little forgetful lol.  The other lady is 100 years old with a fractured pelvis and then I haven't met the other lady.  Dan and Alyssa brought lunch up and we went downstairs and ate it.  Alyssa was so happy and giggling and playing peek a boo with me and having a blast.  She brightens up my day.  I miss her so much, I need to get home to her and take care of her like mothers are supposed to do.

I will update on my progress here at Freeport.

Talk soon. :)

Feeling Pretty Good .......

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 30TH 2014 @ 3:01PM: relaxing well munchie is sleeping HOW I FEEL:  Awesome.  Been rocking 1 CANE around the house for the last 2 days and I seem to have a little more energy this week. Well the most exciting news is that I have been rocking 1 cane around the house and feeling pretty damn good.  I struggle a little on the carpet upstairs because it's not a flat surface; like the tile and hardwood BUT none the less I am still doing it.  I haven't been brave enough to use one cane out running errands; MAYBE sooner then I think.  This weekend I am going to go shopping for a new cane.  Time to upgrade my granny silver cane to a pink one perhaps.  So exciting!  Soon I will have canes to match every outfit.  hahaha yeh right.  I also started acupuncture at physio yesterday; we are hoping that the acupuncture will help speed up the healing of my wound.  In 2 weeks we should k...

YACC Retreat and Munchie's Birthday :):)

MONDAY NOVEMBER 24TH 2014 @ 3:00pm: relaxing and going to pick Alyssa up from daycare shortly HOW   I   FEEL : tired I've been sitting here for the last half an hour or so staring at this computer screen trying to decide where to start with this blog post.  I have so much I want to share just unsure where to start.  I guess I'll start here ---- 7 days ago I got the privilege of attending the Young Adults with Cancer Retreat in Cobourg.  Dan and I got to spend 5 days there with a group of 35 AMAZING people.  I was a little unsure of what to expect going to this but after speaking with people who had attended prior retreats and told me it changed their lives completely, I knew I had to go and see it for myself.  The first day I found really intense; we sat in a circle all 35 of us and gave a brief introduction of ourselves and our journey.  I remember that night when I went to bed I thought to myself ‘holy shit, th...

And so my anxiety begins .....

MONDAY OCTOBER 27TH 2014 @ 8:25pm: in bed watching 2 Broke Girls and eating chocolate mmmm lol HOW I FEEL : tired .... stressed out .... exhausted Sooooo like the title of my blogspot states .... My anxiety for my 1 Year checkup has begun.  I know right? 1 year already since my surgery and since I was told I officially kicked Cancers Ass #screwyousarcoma #youwillneverwin.  My appointment is next Tuesday - bloodwork, X-ray and appointment with Dr. Ghert....the usual process.  For some reason my anxiety seems higher because I really want to say I've been 1 year Cancer free.  I just get so worked up and I ask myself if these appointments will EVER get easier,  I'm told not really .... The anxiety gets less and less but never fully goes away.  Awhile back I had joined this Facebook group for individuals that have or had chandrosarcomas .... In the beginning it seemed pretty awesome, reading other people's stories (from all over the world) and sharing mine...
